You can definitely scale your infrastructure with ControlMonkey. For the automation capabilities, we charge based on the number of stacks (equivalent to state files), rather than RUM (resources under management). This means that customers can increase the size of their Stacks without incurring incremental cost
The ControlMonkey pricing has 3 different inputs that make up the pricing:
- Number of Cloud resources for visibility
- Number of stacks for automation
- Number of resources backed up for DR
ControlMonkey’s pricing reflects this reality, while resource-based pricing often charges more just because an environment is larger, even if it’s handled by the same small team and automation.
ControlMonkey charges for what truly delivers value: governance, automation, drift detection, recovery, and control. You won’t see your bill increase just because you’re managing more cloud resources – you’re paying for the platform’s capabilities, not an arbitrary count of resources.
ControlMonkey perfectly fits a dynamic and ephemeral infrastructure. We don’t charge extra for short-lived or auto-scaled resources, making it perfect for Burstable environments, testing environments, and modern cloud-native architectures. Resource-based pricing tends to overcharge for infrastructure that’s only around for a short time.
Terraform Cloud’s RUM model links costs directly to the size of your infrastructure, which can feel unpredictable and disconnected from actual usage. ControlMonkey provides a simpler and more predictable pricing structure that aligns better with how teams actually work.
